So the skills she acquired while working at Haiku Mill definitely gave her a bit of wedding planning experience under her belt when it came time to start planning her own wedding! 🙂 One other fun fact: Melanie actually used to live on Maui for a short time and interned at the gorgeous wedding venue, Haiku Mill. And because Sam is a quarter Japanese, they had folded a bunch of paper cranes that they used to decorate all around Punakea Palms, which was such a unique touch to their big day! Most importantly though, Melanie and Sam both expressed to me that what they wanted most out of their wedding was for all of their guests to have a good time and eat good food, and I think they definitely accomplished that! 😉 The calligraphy on the agate slices that served as place cards were so chic, yet so simple. I absolutely loved Melanie’s modern, rustic, and organic style. My own dad passed away 20 years ago now, so getting to capture these special mementos for my clients of their loved ones who have passed away is especially near and dear to my heart. Melanie and her sister also honored their father by getting matching tattoos of their dad’s signature on their shoulder blades, which you’ll see in a couple of her getting ready photos below. This sweet couple both love Hawaii and when Melanie’s dad passed away in 2015, they knew they wanted to honor her father by getting married in his favorite place, Maui. The island of Maui sits on an aquifer, so Kai could build a well and have all the water he needs but the cost is outrageous as there is only a few companies on the island who can do this, and of course they can charge whatever they want. There is plenty of water to go around but for some reason its being diverted to other areas. Everyone coming to Hawaii should take this tour and understand what does into a farm like this.ĭue to the greediness of those around the farm who are consuming more than their fair share of water, Kai and his family nearly lost a part of their farm because of lack of water in the area. They do not make a living off of the coconuts they grow so please support them and sign up for a tour. This farm is gorgeous and these tours are what the farm survives on. He did an amazing job in his presentation. We also tried the coconut meat from a mature coconut. The owner, Kai or Ky (sorry I don't know the correct spelling) was passionate in explaining the differences in life cycles from young coconuts to mature coconuts, how the process of making authentic coconut milk occurs and the steps required.
